AUB came into existence through the initiative of the Bangladesh Government on the 4th of January 1996. This is an awarding university and received much recognition under the Private University Act of 1992. The then MP Abdur Razzak took initiative in making the Asian University of Bangladesh stand with the set of specialties and provisions. The university is known for holding the largest numbers of alumni who are known to hold high positions in all the government and private sectors.

The AUB University is known for having several educational departments. There is a School of Science and Engineering where you can find the department of computer science and engineering. There is even the School of Business Administration. The university holds the School of Arts in subjects like English, Bengali, Islamic Study and Islamic History and Civilization.
